Data Provenance, Attribution & Appropriate Use Policy

Transparency and data integrity are central to FastAddress UK. This document explains how our 21.1+ million address database is collated, our open data licensing and Crown copyright attributions, and our guidance on recommended vs. non-recommended use cases.

1. How Our Address Dataset is Built

FastAddress UK combines, cleans, deduplicates, and normalizes high-quality public sector data sources across the United Kingdom. Our data pipeline aggregates:

🗺️
Ordnance Survey (OS) OpenData

OS Open Identifiers, OS Open Names, and national geographic coordinate grids providing authoritative WGS84 GPS latitude and longitude mappings.

🏷️
Ordnance Survey UPRN Directory

The official 12-digit Unique Property Reference Number (UPRN) identifier linking physical structures to the UK National Address Gazetteer.

Energy Performance Certificates (EPC)

Domestic and non-domestic building registers maintained by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC).

🏡
HM Land Registry Price Paid Data

Definitive title and residential transaction records for properties across England and Wales.

2. Statutory Copyright & Open Data Attributions

In accordance with the Open Government Licence (OGL v3.0) and public sector data re-use terms, the following statutory copyright and database rights apply:

  • Contains Ordnance Survey OpenData © Crown copyright and database right.
  • Contains Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) public data © Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.
  • Contains National Statistics data © Crown copyright and database right.
  • Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0 (OGL).
  • Contains data from HM Land Registry © Crown copyright 2026.

3. Appropriate Use Guidelines

Because FastAddress UK is compiled from open public datasets rather than a direct, proprietary Royal Mail PAF® (Postcode Address File) subscription, certain applications are strongly recommended while others are not advised:

4. Address Corrections & Continuous Updates

New properties, commercial redevelopments, and postcode boundary revisions occur constantly. If you identify a missing new build, an incorrect postal code, or a typo, you can submit a correction to our indexing pipeline:

Notice a missing address or typo?

Submit property details to our open-source address review queue for verification in our next indexing cycle.
